Time for bug activities

I have said it before and will continue to say it, I love doing bug activities in therapy. Some of the reasons I love bugs for therapy so much is that they are small, so therefore the perfect manipulative size. Some kids love watching and collecting bugs, so it leads perfectly into collecting fake bugs. You can use fingers, tongs, clothespins, or bubble scissor tongs.

You can collect them and put them into a container or bug jar, or you can add another level of coordination and feed them to the munchy ball.
Some of my kids don’t want to touch the realistic looking bugs, but they are ok with the bug erasers. They also seem to be ok with the bug math counters, but the real looking bugs bother them.
I have made a lot of bug activities over the years, like balancing bugs on a leaf, lining them up on popsicle sticks, putting bugs onto the balance tree, feeding munchy ball, cutting out bugs and gluing them into a bug jar. I also have a bug jar button activity, a ladybug button activity, and butterfly dragonfly and bee button activities.
It is always a good time for bug activities in therapy but now is a really good time to get out there and play with bugs.
