Save the Wildlife Fine Motor Game

I found this cute little game that takes an idea that many people have made themselves, and I think makes it even better. It is called the Jungle Rescue game made by Educational Insights.

I love it because the fine motor work starts in the set-up process. It is a box that the wild animals go in and you set up some stretchy “ropes” over the top of it and hook them onto some hooks on the side of the box. This starts out as a great challenge to get the kids to hook the ropes’ circles over the hooks.

The goal of the game is to rescue the animals using the supplied tongs to get the animals out through the “ropes”. I used this with several kids today and modified it for their levels. The kids loved taking the animals out of the box and I had kids putting animals back into the box that I have not been able to get them to put items into a container before. The rubber ropes add a level of interest, and the kids really responded to getting the animals out through the ropes.

This game is going to be a regular activity in my bag, and we may have to rescue some dinosaurs from another game as well.
